A Western Union messenger boy entered and pre-sented President Troy with the following telegram from thebanquet room of the national organization at the WaldorfAstoria Hotel, New York: n New York, Jan. 21, 1911. Robert P. Troy, Esq., President American Irish Historical Society, San Francisco. The American Irish Historical Society at its thirteenth annualbanquet assembled, extends to its California Chapter and everymember thereof, its earnest, sincere and fraternal greeting, inappreciation of the grand work in which we are ail engaged,making better known the Irish Chapter in American history.This brief message from brethren on the Altantic to brethren onthe Pacific was ordered sent by the unanimous wish of the vastassemblage of ladies and gentlemen present at the thirteenthannual banquet in the grand ballroom at the Waldorf Hotel. The reading of the telegram was received with applause.Mr. Jeremiah Deasy, the treasurer, was called on and made aninteresting and practical address. He said the society was doinggood work, work that would not benefit those engaged in itpersonally, but work that would be of lasting benefit to the Irishrace in America. Thomas V. OBrien of Haywards, Supervisor Hayden, Peter J.McCormick, Peter J. Curtis, ex-sheriff of San Francisco, CaptainThomas F. McGrath and James J. Caniffe, adressed the meeting.Dr. Richard B. Corcoran of the United States army and presi-dent of the Knights of St. Patrick, closed the meeting withinteresting and amusing stories of Irishmen in the United Statesarmy, relating incidents which came under his personal observa-tion during a service of almost forty years.
