greatest numberof the coeffures were en cheveux, ei-ther a la neige or a UEspagnole: thelatter were ornamented with knotsof ponceau and citron satin, or knotsof turquoise blue, with branches ofthe tree of Judea. Those a la neigewere adorned with brandies of oak-leaves and acorns, either in gold orsilver. There were also some beau-tiful wreaths of lilies in pearls andlaurel in emeralds. Among the newarticles in jewellery, one of the mostremarkable is called the tjringle a laVictoire, in the form of a hand com-posed of gold, which holds two crownsof precious stones and pearls, inter-laced with a garland of olives andlaurel in gold or enamel. I had for-gotten in speaking of promenadecostume to tell you that our mostelegant reticules are of blue, green, orcocoa-coloured velvet, in the form ofa tulip. Fashionable colours are, Trocade-ro (it is a mixture of fire-colour andreddish yellow,)ponceau, citron, blue,rose, violet, emerald, slate-colour,and Spanish brown. Adieu! Alwaysyour Eudocia.
