On the 19th, Captain Fairfax ofthe Monarchy with 500 seamen and marines,occupied Port Said, whilst Captain Fitzroy withhis men of the Orion on the following day occu-pied Ismailia. Meanwhile, Admiral Sir WilliamHewitt, V.C., with his flag-ship Euryalus^ and oneor two other of the ships under his command onthe East Indies Station, had occupied Suez. In allthe engagements that preceded the decisive actionof the campaign, Chalouf, Tel-el-Mahuta, and thetwo actions at Kassassin, blue-jackets and marineshad their share. By 12th September the wholeexpeditionary force was assembled at Kassassin,and at nightfall the force moved out on the eight-mile desert march which was to end with thestorming of Arabis entrenched position at Tel-el-Kebir at daybreak on the morning of the 13th.
