It is common in this country, though much lefs fo than theYellow-hammer, which alfo is a fpecies of the Bunting genus : theyare found in vaft numbers in Italy, in Germany, and in the fouthernparts of Ruffia, Sweden and Denmark.—They are frequently fhotjor taken in nets, and. fold for Larks, or Bunting Larks. Females largerand more beautiful than the male. GENERIC CHARACTER. Bill arched from the bafe, which is covered with a wax-likemembrane or cere. SPECIFIC CHARACTER AND STNONTMS. Male: Cere and feet yellow. Back and wings rufous brick-colour, with black fpots. Beneath pale ferruginous, with dark longi-tudinal flreaks. Tail rounded at the end ; of a pale grey colour, witha black band near the extremity. Female: lefs bright, and fpottedwith dufky colour.
