The Crefled Titmoufe is fo very rarely found in this country, thatneither Latham or Pennant has defcribed it as a Britifh fpecies; norhas the latter included it in the Appendix of the BrituV Zoology^among the foreign birds which vifit us at unftated periods. It is met with in many parts of France, particularly in Normandy ^and the intermediate country between that and Sweden; writers concurthat it is of a very folitary difpofition, never mixing with other birds,nor jn numbers even with its own fpecies; it is chiefly found amongthe e.ver-green trees in the deep and gloomy recefTes of exteniive fo-refts, and is therefore little known even in thofe parts where the fpe-cies is moft frequent, . Walcot mentions that they are fometimes feen in Scotland^ and oncevifited that country in a large flock; the fpecimen from which ourfigure is copied was fhot in Scotland alfo, in company with feveralothers in the year 1792, PLATE -1
