Hepublishes the laws and resolutions of Congress,amendments to the Constitution, and proclamationsdeclaring the admission of new States, and he pre-pares certain annual reports to Congress, containingthe commercial information which has been collectedby consuls and other diplomatic agents. Ofthe six bureaus, it is the duty of the Bureau ofIndexes and ArcJiives to register and index daily thecorrespondence of the Department, to preserve thearchives, and to be ready to produce at demand anyletter or state paper that may be called for.
