mpany owns a lot of 3 J^ acres fronting on Cottage Groveavenue between 38th and 39th streets, and the new car barnextends to the lot line everywhere except on the northwestcorner, where on a triangle of about 3,000 square feet in areaa stable has been erected for thirty or more horses. locatcil where it will be accessible at all times, for use in caseof emergency. In the southeast corner of bay No. 3 is the employes clubroom, 23 by 50 feet, which, together with light and heat, isfurnished by the company. Next to this is a room iS by 28feet in which are quartered the wreck wagon and its teamof horses. The equipment of this room is all in the mostapproved fire department style. To the north of the wreckwagon is the office and conductors room. Here lockers forthe men are provided. The oil and lamp room 8 by 39 feetlies just south of the club room, with a small coal room inthe rear. Oil is delivered to the storage tanks, which arcbelow the floor level, through a hatchway in the sidewalk .

The front which isof red pressed brick with terra cotta trimmings is shown inone of our illustrations. The best idea of the extent of thebuilding is to be had from the view of the roof. The gen-eral arrangement is shown by the floor plan. Two longi-tudinal brick walls divide the barn into three bays, whichare in communication only at the transfer track, whichextends clear across the barn about midway of its length.These openings in the dividing walls are each provided withtwo pairs of fire doors so that the bays may be isolated fromeach other. These doors roll upon inclined ways so thatwhen released they will close of themselves. It is intended toarrange tripping devices with lead wires to a single lever, The Piiitsch gas which is used for lighting the cars is deliv-ered to storage tanks located under the sidewalk by a pipeline from the gas plant of the Pi
