S in Havana, Cuba, and the suburbs,which are owned by a company called the Ferro CarrilUrbano, comprise a steam tramway from Havana toVedado, a suburb three miles distant on the seacoast, andthree lines of horse trams to Castillo del Principe, Cerro,and Jesus del Monte. The fare is 2i^d. or 5d., accord-ing to distance. According to the British consul-general,arrangements have been made by an English companyfor laying down an electric tramway. The following table gives the time required to go twohundred feet at various rates of speed: lO miles per hour requires 13.6 seconds for 200 ft. 11 12.4 12 II.4 13 10.5 14 9.7 15 9.1 16 8.5 17 8.0 The Robinson lines, of Toledo, Ohio, have begun car-rying the United States mail. The carriers make collec-tions as usual, lock their pouches, and send them back tothe post office via the street railway, in care of the con-ductors, who are now sworn mail agents. The mail tobe distributed is treated in the same manner to the car-riers in each district into which the cars run. No specialcar is in use. The Electrical World appeared July 7 in a newdress, the style of type being changed to admit of morematter to a given space. We congratulate our contemp-orary on its much improved appearance, and give thanksfor the greater ease with which it can be read. The official returns regarding the working of theelectric tramway at Marseilles, France, show that it isbeing greatly appreciated
