Lansingburg. Each boiler weighedabout fourteen tons. The movers used the Troy CityRailway tracks for about two miles. When about half-way with the first boiler one of the wheels of the heavytruck broke, and it was impossible to get a wheel thatwould take its place. While the wheel was being fixedthere was a delay of about twenty-four hours. More-over, the boiler, when on the truck, was dangerously nearthe trolley wire. When it came time to move the secondboiler, Superintendent C. H. Smith of the City Railwaynotified the boiler people that they must not use thestreet railway tracks for that purpose, except betweenmidnight and 5 oclock in the morning. They repliedthat they would move it as they did the first one, whereatthe railway obtained an injunction, which had the effectof keeping them off the track and compelling them touse other streets. The slowness which usually marks the movements ofaffairs in tropical countries does not seem to characterizeour street railway brethren of Madras, India. It wasonl) last January that the inaugural ceremonies of theconstruction of the Madras tramways took place. En-gravings from photographs taken at the time were pre- sented to our readers in March. It was not to be ex-pected that work would advance very fast in a countrywhere no similar work had been done, but the progresshas been truly remarkable, as can be seen from the viewspresented herewith. In fact, it puts to shame the streetrailway work done in some hustling cities in northernclimates. It will be remembered that this is a conduitroad somewhat similar to that at Budapest. It was
