o shall defile any street car while In useupon any street or highway In the City of Minneapolis, by spittingupon the floor or Inside furnishings or equipment, or in any placeupon the inside, or upon any platform of such car, or by any othermeans, or in any other manner shall defile such car so that the sameshall be unclean for use as a street car, or so as to interfere with thecomfort or well being of passengers thereon, shall be deemed gudtyof a misdemeanor. Sec. 3. Any person who shall violate any provision of any sectionof this ordinance shall, upon the conviction thereof before the Muni-cipal Court of said city, be punished by a fine not to exceed tendollars for each offense, and upon default In the payment of suchfine, may be Imprisoned until such fine Is paid, but not to exceed tendays. Sec. 4. This Ordinance shall take effect and be In force from andafter Its publication. The two tons of copper wire stolen from the Hartford.Street Railway, May 8, were recovered in Philadelphia.

In designing the manufacturing plant of tlie Fuel Econ-omizer Company of Matteavvan, N. Y., anil of which wepresent some illustrations, the general manager of the com-pany, A. H. Blackburn, endeavored to so arrange the works,that receiving the raw material at one end, it should bepassed along from shop to shop, and finally emerge as afinished product with the minimum possible amount of hand-liu. With this object in vie A the foundry is placed dir-ectly behind the machine shop, and as the castings comefrom the foundry they go to the cleaning sliop, and thenceto the machine shop. Here they are machined and passedto the hydraulic presses, the sections there being pressedtogether, and after being tested are ready to be loaded on tocars for shipment. The machine shop and foundry cover a space of 50x360ft., and are so arranged that either or both can at any timebe enlarged to do
