y of the Board of Railway Com-missioners of New South Wales, advises us concerning thestreet railways of Sydney and Newcastle as follows: The street tramways in Sydney and Newcastle are undercontrol of the Railway Commissioners. At the present timethree systems of traction are in operation, viz., steam, 54miles; cable, 5 miles and electric (overhead trolley), 35^miles. It has also been decided that the existing citylines which are worked by steam power are to be alteredand made suitable for the overhead-wire electric system. Theexisting cable lines will be continued.
