For street car purposes it is essential that the lamps havemechanical strength, uniformity in current consumptionand long life without a decrease in brdliancy. A long lifelamp can be secured which gives a dim light but these arenot economical as there is little return for the current con-sumption. The Edison lamp has an efficiency of 4 wattsper candle power.
