From them I have made a selec-tion, w^hich will illustrate well the modes offorming this dress which w^ere in fashionsome few years ago. The apron rej^resented by fig. 4 in theillustration of dress and ornaments, page49, is that w^hich is most generally used. Itis made of very delicate thongs twisted to-gether in rope fashion, and having the endsunravelled so as to make a thick fringe, and,as has already been observed, the thongs ateach end are twice as long as those whichoccupy the centre. A broad belt of beads isplaced along the upper edge of the apron, and festoons of beads hang below the belt. The colors are rather brilliant, being red, yellow, and white, and nearly all the thongs (48) > w o to CO CO OOQ ^ o w 00CO l>:^ O ow CO OQ

Tlie band by which it is sus-pended is also covered witli beads, and it isfastened by means of a loop at one end,and a large brass button at the other. These aprons are fixed in their position bytwo strings, one of which passes round thewaist, and the other below the hips. Another apron is seen at tlie side of theillustration entitledDress and ornaments,on page 41), hg. 1. This is a very elaborateaffair, and is made on a totally diifereutprinciple. It is wholly made of beads, thethreads which hold them together beingscarcely visible. In order to show the in-genious manner in which the beads arestrung together, a portion of the apron isgiven separately. The colors of these beadsare black and white, in alternate strip(3S, andthe two ends are a tritle larger than themiddle of the dress. The belt by which it issuspended is made from large round oeads, arranged
