Tiiis tliong liasthen been cut into three strips of half aninch in width, and the strips have beenroiled up spirally, as already described. Asthe slit is carried to the very end of thetail, the tuft is spread open, and thereforelooks twice as large as would have been theca3e had it been left untouched. Eai^h ofthese tufts representing a cow, it is evidentthat tlie possession of them shows that theowner must be wealthy enough, not only topossess cows, but to have so many that hecould afford to slaughter them.
