On Palm Sunday is the consecrationof the palms and olive branches; on MaundyThursday the typical Spanish ceremony ofthe washing of feet takes place; on GoodFriday there is the Passion Sermon; and onSaturday the Cirio Pascual, the great candle,%5 feet high and 770-880 pounds in weight,is consecrated. All the days the cathedral is filled withrelays upon relays of worshippers: some kneelupon the bare stones, one by one or in groupstogether; some stand; others sit on the chairsthey have brought with them.
