Français : Vue éloignée du passage d'un tramway près de la porte Saint-Jean, vers 1930

« Sur le trajet de la Haute-Ville, les voitures tirées par deux chevaux s'accommodaient assez bien de la présence de la porte Saint-Jean, qui était pourvue de deux grands passages arqués. En 1897, lorsque le tramway est électrifié et que des fils aériens doivent être installés, la porte Saint-Jean devient un obstacle infranchissable.

Elle sera donc démolie. Ce n'est qu'en 1939 que l'actuelle porte, avec sa grande arche, sera construite. »
