Summary[edit]

Description
English: Sounds like a 1960s sci-fi flick, but it's absolutely true. Here's our #TBT from the Moon. Yes, the USGS was on the moon and apparently we contributed vital parts to helping the Apollo Lunar Rover Vehicle (LRV) continue to function well...but, of course, with our maps! The Apollo crew (unsure which one) had to repair a broken fender on the LRV. When you're not equipped with spare parts what do you use—pages from the USGS Lunar Surface Map Package! The USGS provided geologic training to NASA astronauts including Neil Armstrong, Alan Shepard, in order to identify geologic features on the lunar surface during the Apollo missions. And now you know.
