English: Sgt. Maj. Carlton Kent, former sergeant major of the Marine Corps, speaks to the audience about his replacement, Sgt. Maj. Micheal Barrett, and the future of the Corps during his post and relief ceremony at Marine Barracks Washington June 9, 2011. During the ceremony, Kent, who has served as the sergeant major of the Marine Corps since April 25, 2007, was awarded the Navy Distinguished Service Medal, the third most prestigious award a Marine can receive, for his outstanding service to the Corps. The ceremony also marked Kent’s retirement after 35 years of service in the Marine Corps. Barrett recently returned from Afghanistan, where he served as the sergeant major of Regional Command Southwest and I Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward). |
