Description
English: U.S. Navy destroyers alongside the aircraft carrier USS Lexington (CV-2) assist in the ship's abandonment, after she had been mortally damaged by fires and explosions during the afternoon of 8 May 1942. The photo was taken from the heavy cruiser USS Minneapolis (CA-36). Note the Curtiss SOC Seagull scouting plane, with a damaged wingtip, on the cruiser's port catapult. The destroyer on the left is probalby USS Hammann (DD-412).
