English: Operation Enduring Freedom (Oct. 3, 2002) -- U.S. Marines assigned to Charlie Battery of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) make final adjustments on an M-198 Howitzer field cannon before a firing exercise. The M-198 is a helicopter-transportable, 155mm towed howitzer used in a general support role for Army light infantry divisions or U.S. Marine Corps Air-Ground task forces. It provides significant improvement over its predecessor, a World War II-era howitzer, in lethality, range, reliability, emplacement ease, and movement. The U.S. Marines from Charlie Battery are conducting exercises while deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. U.S. Navy photo by Photographer’s Mate 2nd Class Michael Sandberg. (RELEASED) |
