Description
English: SOUTH CHINA SEA (Apr. 6, 2007) - At the helm of aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), the helmsman and lee helmsman are supervised by the helm safety officer, Lt. j.g. Mathew Busse, from Peekskill, N.Y., as the Nimitz-class nuclear powered aircraft carrier conducts ammunition offload with the Military Sealift Command (MSC) ammunition ship USNS Flint (T-AE 32). The helm safety officer is responsible for ensuring the master helmsman and lee helmsman respond correctly to orders from the Conning Officer, and is to respond in the event of a steering casualty. This was the second day of the three-day ammunition offload, marking the beginning of the end of Ronald Reagan's surge deployment. The Ronald Reagan Carrier Strike Group (CSG) is currently underway on a surge deployment in support of U.S. military operations in the Western Pacific.
