Image title | 100803-N-5888C-002 NAVAL BASE POINT LOMA, Calif. (Aug. 3, 2010) - USS Asheville (SSN 758) Commanding Officer, Cmdr. Jerry Miranda, watches line handlers tie the submarine to the pier upon returning from their six-month Western Pacific deployment. Around the world, the Navy is executing the six core capabilities of the Maritime Strategy - forward presence, deterrence, sea control, power projection, maritime security and humanitarian assistance/disaster response. Asheville, a Los Angeles-class, fast attack submarine supports this strategy through its ability to operate in the open oceans and the littorals with mission areas that include anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, strike, special operations, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, irregular warfare, strike group support and mine warfare.
