| Description |
A quick planespotting session on Sepulveda Boulevard just outside LAX, while I had a bit of time. United 274 arrives from San Francisco. This aircraft dates from 1996, and is from a small, later batch of legacy United 757s. That batch also included N591UA which was lost while operating United 93 on 11 September 2001. By contrast most legacy United 757s were delivered between 1989 and 1993, and currently are on top of the list for retirement as the 737-900ER, ordered by Continental and post-merger New United, arrive as replacements. It's good to do a bit of planespotting on the 13th anniversary of my most memorable air travel day - 9 December 1999, when I was coming home from a nightmare visit to the Netherlands, and relieved to be on the "Lesbian-Friendly Skies" of United.
