Notes In het eerste kwart van de zeventiende eeuw graveerde Willem Van Nieulandt II (ook bekend als Guilliam van Nieuwelandt) een reeks van 36 Italianiserende landschappen naar werk van zijn meester, de schilder Paul of Paulus Bril. Dit havengezicht is de 34ste in de reeks, als men op de nummering mag afgaan. De gravure is uitgegeven door A. Bon Enfany. De compositie van deze ets is verwant aan een schilderij met hetzelfde onderwerp van Bril, te dateren omstreeks 1607, en bewaard in de Galerie Borghese te Rome. Het betreft nochtans géén slaafse kopie. Sommige details zijn anders opgevat en werpen de vraag op of er geen voorbereidende schets of tekening zou hebben bestaan waar zowel het schilderij van Bril als de ets van Nieulandt op teruggaan. Dit exemplaar is een derde staat.
