SIEGFRIED S DEATH ACT III SCENE W—Hall in Gunthers Palace Siegfrieds Funeral March Vessellas Italian Band ♦35369 12-inch, $1.25 Siegfrieds Funeral March is the wonderful symphonic piece—a funeral oration over thelast descendant of the gods, and a farewell to the slain hero—which occurs in the last actof Gotterdammerung. The first motive is solemnly tragic, and pictures the cold wing ofdeath flying over the procession. Then the heroic motive of the Volsungs follows; andfrom this moment, with the rhythm of the Funeral March, all the motives, passionate,dramatic or tragic, which have already been developed separately in the course of thetetralogy, are heard one by one. Thus is heard the love motive, while from the deep toneof the double-basses the funeral theme of the Volsungs rises, which gradually developsand gains in strength, preparing for the entrance of the heroic motive of the sword (Valkyrie).Then comes the fatal motive of Siegfrieds prophecy, increasing in force until it
