| Description |
English: Walter H. "Walt" Day (1911-2001) was an American businessman and politician. Day was born in Bradshaw, West Virginia and moved to Valdez, Alaska, in 1929. He was part of a family which purchased the former Fort Liscum and operated a cannery and other businesses on the site before it was in turn purchased by Alyeska Pipeline Service Company, which built the Valdez Marine Terminal at the terminus of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. Day was best known for serving as mayor of Valdez for several years in the 1960s or 1970s and for being the editor-publisher of the Valdez Copper Basin News newspaper. He was also involved in the insurance and real estate businesses and with the area's rural electrification cooperative organizations. |
