Description

The mysterious sight that pops up on the drive from California to Las Vegas on the I-15, the Zzyzx Road interchange..

  • Although the sign says "Exit 23," actual exit number is 239. California did not start deploying exit numbers until 2000, and deployment is still not complete.
  • Zzyzx Road leads to the community of Zzyzx, which now houses California State University system's Desert Studies Center. Zzyzx is the last alphabetical name in the world, it is believed.
  • Baker is 7 miles ahead (east), Primm (the Nevada state line) about 55 miles ahead, and Las Vegas about 95 miles ahead.
