I notice one small matter in the free body diagram, though it doesn't bear on the exercise. Where the forces are not balanced, there will be acceleration, as there is in the x direction. However, if the boat is not sinking, there had better be a corresponding buoyant force in the positive y direction to counter the force on the boat due to gravity. —Dvortygirl (talk) 05:29, 14 October 2011 (UTC)
