Michael Damaskinos (1530–1593) was a Greek painter born on the island of Crete. He was active during the same period as El Greco. One hundred of the painter's works survived. Damaskinos moved to Venice in the 1560s, while he was there he learned miniature painting. Damaskinos produced his mature works, after 1575. He traveled around Italy and returned to Venice. He stayed in Venice until 1582. His works were influenced by Paolo Veronese, Tintoretto, and Titian. He spent the rest of his life painting in Crete. Most of his surviving works are in museums in Greece.
