X-ray of the hip of a 51 year old nurse with idiopathic avascular necrosis of the left femoral head.

Pre-operative

• 
  Anteroposterior image of pelvis. Also visible:
  - IUD with progesterone, justaposed to an extracorporeal object
  - Selveral pelvic phleboliths
  - Side markings:
     - Dx = dexter = right side of patient
     - Sin = sinister = left side
  - Calibration ball marker

  Anteroposterior detail, showing cyst-like radiolucencies and irregular surface of the femoral head, indicating avascular necrosis.

After hip replacement

  Anteroposterior image of pelvis
