Usage[edit]

Parameters:

  • Type - One of Tropical Storm, Hurricane, Typhoon, Tropical Cyclone or Cyclone. Only use for storms with an officially assigned name.
  • Name - The name of the storm. In the case of an officially named storm (like Hurricane Katrina (2005) this should be of the form "Katrina (2005)", excluding the "Hurricane". In the case of a storm without an official name (like Labor Day Hurricane of 1935) this should be the full name used for the storm, including any "type" - so the Labor Day storm should have name=Labor Day Hurricane of 1935.
  • Source - One of NHC or JTWC. The source of the best data used to create the image.

Purpose of this template[edit]

This template was designed before {{Information}} became prevalent; and the fairly widely distributed program creating tracks uses what is now outdated syntax. Information is getting more and more "this image doesn't have info stuff added to it". The conjunction of the two means that perfectly fine PD images will be put in a maintenance category.

The description pages for files using this template need to be updated to a format more compatible with information; but that is best done by bot runs and deprecation of this template than trying to kludge this template to do it all - its just not up to the job.--Nilfanion 00:19, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rewording for clarity[edit]

{{Editprotected}} Please modify the text "See page history for details." to "See file upload history for details." for clarity. This has been brought up in a few FACs in en.wikipedia. Titoxd(?!?) 08:41, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

remove uncategorized[edit]

{{Editprotected}}

Could somebody please remove "uncategorized" and add {{documentation}} so that this template can be categorized without always asking an admin. Cheers --Cwbm (commons) (talk) 08:57, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
