Member of the Ozone and Water Vapor group, Earth Systems Research Laboratory, Global Monitoring Division and its predecessors Climate Monitoring and Diagnostics Laboratory, and Geophysical Monitoring for Climatic Change. http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/gmd/ Current responsibilities include the management of the NOAA sites using the Dobson Ozone Spectrophotometer, and management of the World Dobson Calibration Center. Participated in numerous field experiments as an operator of a Dobson Spectrophotometer, or as balloonist (ozonesondes) at such sites as MLO, Palestine Balloon Launching Facility, and Amundsen-Scott Station (1986, 2001) Developed the automation for Dobson Spectrophotometers modified for unattended Umkehr observations. Installed, with others, these instruments at Boulder, Colorado; MLO, Hawaii; Poker Flat Research Range (now at the Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska), Fairbanks, Alaska; l’Observatoire de Haute Provence, France; Perth Airport, Australia; Huancayo, Peru; and Lauder, New Zealand. This network of instruments has been operational since 1982; Upgrades of the controlling computer, software and hardware are continuing, with a slow conversion to the Japan Meteorological Agency automation Developed and deployed a semi-automated system for the GMD, NWS, and NASA manually operated Dobson instruments. Attended numerous international intercomparisons of Dobson instruments, supervised the intercomparisons at Arosa, Switzerland (1990, 1995, 1999), Hradec Kralove, CZ, (1993) Izaña Obs, (1994) Tsukuba, Japan (1996, 2003, 2006); Perth, Australia (1997) and Kalavryta, Greece (1997); Buenos Aires, Argentina (1999, 2003, 2006, 2010), Pertoria, South Africa, (2000, 2009); and Dahab, Egypt (2004). Rebuilt, repaired, and calibrated numerous Dobson instruments in Boulder. Advised and assisted with numerous WMO GAW members’ ozone measurement programs, as a current member of both the Ad-Hoc Working Group for Dobson Activities, and the GAW Scientific Advisory Group on Ozone
