Biografie
TONY CATANIA Antonio Nunzio Catania, better known as Tony Catania, was born in Sicily, Italy. He studied classical guitar, flute, piano and music history at the Music Conservatory, Vincenzo Bellini in Catania/Sicily
Tony’s first musical success took place in his hometown of Sicily as a songwriter with several Italian artists. During this time he was also collaborating on film soundtrack compositions.
After his first musical success in his home country, he moved to London and played guitar and bass in several different rock bands. From there, Tony moved to Germany where he worked for three years with producer Frank Farian on various projects including Milli Vanilli. After this experience Tony started his own production company, Catania Music Studios. A creative home for busy DJs like Da Hool, Moguai and many others, Catania Music Studios was hugely successful. Tony's remixes and productions include artists like Herbert Groenemeyer, Haddoway, Montell Jordan, Joe Cocker, Queen, Adiemus, Adriano Celentano, Jennifer Rush, Leroy Gomes, London Beat and many more...
As a songwriter and producer Tony had a huge success with Scatman John. To sum it up, Scatman John has sold 22 million CD's, has had three No. 1 singles in almost every country in the world, and counts 16 Gold and 19 Platinum records to his credit. Scatman John was given the ‘Artist of the Year’ Award in Japan, has received the Golden Europa Award for single sales, the Echo Award in Europe for ‘Cross-Over Artist of the Year,’ and an MTV Europe Music Award in the Best Male Artist category, alongside Michael Jackson, Dr. Dre, Neil Young, and Lenny Kravitz.
Tony scored another hit in the U.S. with the song, "Get Ready to Rumble” featuring American boxing announcer Michael Buffer. Tony and producer discovered the R&B act, R'N'G ("Open Up Your Mind,” “Platz 14,” "Darling," "Can`t U See"). Other successful productions followed, such as the Southside Rockers with the Top 10 song “Rock On”. In 1998, Tony connected with the world famous top model, Marcus Schenkenberg in New York. They went on to produce the song "La Chica Marita."
