Hey there,

My name is Franca Umasoye Igwe, and I am glad you want to know more about me.

After a failed attempt to communicate with a fellow scholar in my mother tongue on campus, I decided to help other students learn to speak the Ekpeye language. What started as a picnic idea for language and cultural immersion has become a passion journey.

Currently, I advocate for indigenous languages and culture preservation; I channel my efforts toward using technology to sustain and revitalize Indigenous languages. I founded the Speak Ekpeye Fluently Initiative in 2020, an NGO committed to teaching and inspiring Ekpeye youths to speak their language to prevent language loss. Through my advocacy, my team and I have created a learning environment for the Ekpeye language in digital spaces using an innovative and efficient way that sets a model that can be implemented for other threatened or endangered languages.

Amongst other things, I am a content creator and an ex-photographer (ex-photographer because I left my full-time photography job to focus on content writing). During my free time, you will find me contributing to Wikimedia.
