My name is Mike Young and I'm a Sydneysider currently living in Crows Nest.

I started digital photography with an Olympus C730, and a Panasonic TZ1 when I could manage to borrow it from my wife. We now have replaced the Panasonic TZ1 with a TZ2, and a Panasonic FZ18 has replaced the aging Olympus. The latest addition is a Nikon D5000 which has temporarily displaced the Panasonic FZ18. Both have their place - the FZ18 is a good daytime camera and the extra zoom can be really handy. For night and indoor work, and for special shots, the Nikon comes into its own. The cameras now have another competitor, an iPhone4. Like the FZ18 it is only really good in bright lighting - the picture of James St bridge below gives an idea of what it can do.
