English: Xanthorrhoea is a genus of 29 species of en:monocot, placed alone in the plant family Xanthorrhoeaceae, in order Asparagales. Commonly known as grasstrees or blackboys, they are native to Australia. They are recognisable by their tall flower-spike arising from a distinctive head of very long leaves. Some species grow a pseudo-trunk, which is actually a hollow ring of accumulated leaf-bases.
