The shell of Theba pisana shows a wide range of variation. It can be white or yellowish, uniform coloured or with faint or heavily coloured dark stripes and dots. The apex can be white or dark, the aperture has a more or less pink inner lip. The depicted specimens are the extremes of a number of specimens, collected at the same locality, i.e. they show well the range within one and the same population. All imaginable intermediate forms and combinations can occur.
