English: The YAL-1 Airborne Laser (ABL) is a heavily modified Boeing 747-400F fitted with a megawatt-class chemical oxygen iodine laser (COIL) primarily designed to destroy tactical ballistic missiles (TBMs), similar to the Scud, while in boost phase. The project was cut from the 2010 U.S. Department of Defense budget.
