As ruled by Opinion 2027 the scientific name of cattle can either be Bos taurus (as a species) or Bos primigenius taurus (as a subspecies). The Aurochs can not be a subspecies of Bos taurus, as has been stated in Mammal Species of the World (v3, 2005) link: (in error) and in ITIS link: (in error).
