The 5th New York Cavalry, also known as the First Ira Harris Guard, fought for the Union during the American Civil War from 1861 until 1865. It was organized by Colonel Othniel De Forest of New York City, and fought in the eastern United States. The National Park Service identifies it as the 5th Regiment, New York Cavalry.
