This private mansion was the home of Gaillard de Guiran (1600-1680), magistrate and late literary seventeenth century whose motto "Ne quid nimis" (Nothing too much) affirms the measurement ideal of humanists. Its decoration is influenced by the Renaissance: broken fonton portal and especially the inner courtyard with its weapons trophies, masks, lion heads, and profiles of helmeted soldiers. In 1919 it becomes the seat of the Academy of Nîmes, learned society founded in 1682.[edit]
