Deutsch: Altbau der Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Hamburg, Moorweidenstraße 40, Hamburg-Rotherbaum, Germany
English: This building is today a part of the library system of the Universität Hamburg. It was designed by Hamburg Architect Carl Johann Christian Zimmermann, and built from 1883 to 1885 as a school building for the Wilhelm-Gymnasium. The library of the University of Hamburg, which is adjacent, was destroyed in July 1943 by bombing and subsequent fire. The remaining books and holdings were moved into the school building as a temporary measure. After the end of the war, the university held on to the building, which was opened to the library users in November 1945.
