English: Church Square facing the rear of Cape Town's Groote Kerk in Adderley Street. Slaves once sat in the square while their masters attended church. The Cape Town Memorial to the Enslaved was unveiled in the square in 2008. The memorial comprises eleven black granite blocks inscribed with the names of slaves and words from the slavery era. Church Square is bordered by Kerk/Parliament Street and Spin Street, named after a silk factory where child slaves once worked (the factory building is no longer in existence).
