English: The Grassendale was an iron full-rigged ship built in 1885 by R. Williamson & Son, Workington for R.W. Leyland & Co., Liverpool. In 1906 she was sold through Clarkson & Co. to Gabriel Granlund Jr, Rauma, Finland and was renamed Imperator Aleksander II.. Imperator Aleksander II. then has many Scandinavian owners and was 1918 renamed Ernst (by a Swedish owner). 1920 she struck a mine at Hertha's Flak in position 57°45,5' N and 11°5' E and sank at a depth of 45 meters.
The dimension of the Grassendale were: length x beam x depht: 267 × 39.1 × 23.5 ft (81.3 × 11.9 × 7.1 m) and she had a tonnage of 1860 GRT, 1819 NRT and 1727 tons under deck. Rigged with royals over single topgallant and double top-sails.[1]
