This monument is by sculptor and monumental mason Thomas Potts (c.1824–1891) of Harrogate.

The inscription on the front of the gravestone says: "In tender loving memory of my dear husband George Dawson of Vanderbilt Court. An alderman of this borough. Born June 12 1821, taken to rest in Jesus Feb 22 1889. Martha widow of the above, born May 20 1837, passed peacefully away May 22 1913. "How sweet their memory still". Also George E. Dawson, eldest son, died Feb 28, 1936. Also Julia B. Dawson, daughter-in-law, at rest, Aug 16 1931."

The inscriptions on the sides say: "This monument is erected by his devoted but sorrowing widow", and God taketh his workman but carries on his work (quotation from Charles Wesley)..
