The Ghatiyari site is a panchayatana (five) temples complex near Birkha village, about 4 kilometers northwest of Gandai village in Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh. Several mounds were known near this village but this temple was unknown till 1970s, when villagers reported finding temple parts in farmlands. An ASI excavation in 1979 revealed the lower section of a temple along with mutilated Hindu artwork (defaced, chopped limbs). Nearby more temple foundations along with scattered broken statues of Shiva, Vishnu, Devi, Ganesha and others were discovered near the site. This is now called as Ghatiyari site, and best surviving temple of the five temples is referred to as the Shiva temple of Ghatiyari. The temples complex is likely from the 11th century, with some scholars dating it to the 10th-century.

Further studies suggest that Gandai region was an important Hindu, Buddhist and Jain temples site in the Kalachuri eta (pre-14th century). Remains of 9th to 14th-century temples have been found spread over a 5 kilometer radius.
