English: The James Rumsey Monument is a 75-foot (23 m) tall granite monument in Shepherdstown, West Virginia built to honor inventor James Rumsey. It was built in 1914 and dedicated in 1915. The West Virginia state park system operated the monument from 1956 until its transfer to the Corporation of Shepherdstown in 1978. The monument provides a panoramic view of the Potomac River valley and is a contributing property to the NRHP Shepherdstown Historic District.
