English: Log bridges are the most ancient and simple form of wooden bridges. A log bridge uses logs (see tree trunks) that fall naturally or are intentionally felled or placed across streams (usually; other obstacles possible).

Please notice:

  • The term "log bridge" basically refers to the material used (pure untreated, or slightly treated logs), not to a certain structural type (see list of bridge types). However, many log bridges can be classified as beam bridges.
  • Log bridges are often footbridges, but may also be constructed to be used by vehicles, e.g. as part of logging roads.
  • To provide a more even surface, the logs may be flattened a bit (but not processed into beams or planks/boards), or stones/rammed earth and/or some smaller logs/boards may be added on top. Additional handrails may also be present.
  • Simple bamboo bridges might look like log bridges, but bamboos are plants in the grass family Poaceae, not woody plants/trees (even if similarly used in construction, their stems are not called logs).
