English: The Maynard Building originally known as the Dexter Horton Building or just the Bank Building was built in 1892 on the site of Seattle's first bank, located in Seattle's first fireproof building. That building withstood the fire well enough to serve as temporary quarters until new plans were made. Albert Wickersham was the architect. After the Dexter Horton Bank relocated to the New York Block (also built by Horton) in 1906, the building was purchased by the Trustee Company, headed by Horton's former cashier Norval Latimer, who renamed it after Doc Maynard in 1907.
