  • Built by the first Ming ruler Hongwu Emperor, between 1367 and 1392. From the mid-1600s on it was gradually demolished by the Qing Dynasty, with stone and carvings recycled for projects in Beijing. The 1840s Taiping Revolutionaries reduced it to foundations
  • Present day site includes a commemorative park with palace complex remnants, 19th—20th century buildings, and several museums.
